Breaking A Bad Habit Is Hard To Do

Here are some methods for breaking bad habits. Well, some people can break a bad habit almost overnight while others can’t. I know for a fact that it can be done without the help of a professional or attending any AA meetings. A bad habit can turn into an addiction such as eating a lot of junk food which can turn into obesity if you are not careful, smoking is an addiction that is extremely harmful to your health, drinking alcohol can also become an addiction that is very bad for your health too if you let it get out of hand but some people can control the amount of alcohol they drink, and abusing drugs is also bad for your health and can lead to death. To break these bad habits there are two simple steps you need to consider.

·        You must to want to change your life.

·        Then commit yourself to make the change.

Once you commit yourself and start taking action towards making the change then you need to stick to it and keep that determination and never give up until you are clean. There are various types of treatment method that is available, with these methods you will have a good chance of making the change and sticking to it.

For those who haven’t yet made up their minds of making that commitment to change, or who don’t think they need to make the change, unfortunately, I am sorry to say that you are living in denial. Twenty percent of people who have health-risky habits must be prepared to make the decision to change their bad habit at any particular time. These types of bad habits we are talking about are not to be taken lightly. Those are life threatening bad habits that can take over your entire life if you let it and it will most definitely shorten the time you have left on earth, make you very sick and not to mention the strain you put on those who care enough about you and are trying their best to help you.

Prochaska, Norcross, and DiClemente book, offer a practical approach when changing a bad habit. There are five steps in this book that can help people who want to change their bad habits. These stages are;

ü Contemplation – change on the horizon

ü Preparation – being ready

ü Action – time to move

ü Maintenance – staying there

ü Recycling – learn from relapse

It seams that maintenance is like taking personal inventory in AA.It is a conditional process which is necessary to help keep you from relapsing.

Perusing these strategies should increase your chances of breaking your bad habits by using these methods. The name of the book is ‘Calagary Health Region, psychology (Adult) Breaking bad habits’.
